WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Over the summer, we have completed Phase I of the Food for Thought Campaign. We now have a state of the art kitchen which is able to cater for our 1,000 students in providing delicious, healthy and nutritious and value for money break and lunch time food. We have also introduced additional serving areas to help speed up the process.
Phase II of the project is due to be underway at Easter. The current dining room is only able to seat 100 students at time which means that the students spend half their lunchtimes queuing to be served lunch and miss the opportunity to attend the numerous and various clubs the School offers. Some students work around this issue by buying their lunch at breaktime and putting it in their school bag, however, this limits their choice of food and increases the chances of getting a Panini stuck on their English essay!
The benefits:
Increase seating to 250 at lunchtimes
o More time to go to clubs and socialise with friends
o Less time spent queuing
o Able to select hot lunch option as there is somewhere to eat it!
Additional teaching space linked to the drama studio
Additional concert/rehearsal space
Additional Sixth Form study areas
Able to generate income from renting the space to our local community
The total cost of the project is £500,000; we have received £200,000 from the Government and £200,000 will come from School funds which leaves us with a shortfall of £100,000…! Please come and see the plans which are at Reception next time you are in the School.
